What’s your current occupation?
I am a doctor in residency training.

Where are you currently living (city and country)?
I live in Kassel, Germany

Tell us a bit about yourself!
Hi, I am Samira. I am 25 years and old and I love engaging with people and learning more about the field of medicine. I love understanding the “why” behind many of our life questions by examining the intrinsic connections within the brain. When I am not at the hospital, I love reading, writing, doing all kinds of sports, and exploring other cultures.

What is the idea of your talk?
You will have to wait and see but a small spoiler: I want to explore with all of you whether our body gives us signals before it comes and visits us as illnesses and how these messages are communicated. As a small souvenir, I’ll teach you a practical way how we can speak to our body. To discuss this topic effectively, we need to gain a new understanding of the interconnectedness of the psyche and body.

What do you connect with our theme “Bold Choices”?
Doing something that is outside our comfort zone and maybe even a bit scary but doing it anyways because we believe it’s important and will help us move forward.

What is the boldest choice you’ve ever made in your life? – And why was this your boldest choice
Hmm this is a hard one. I believe I can’t choose just one, so here are two:

  1. Writing a book during medical school despite being scared of what everyone else (especially more experienced doctors would say about it)
  2. Continuing my studies despite being ill.

How do you choose which choice to make if you’re in doubt?
I love speaking to others and getting their advice and also engaging in meditations and prayers.

What gives you the strength to make a bold choice?
Knowing that it is important and trusting that it will work out and if not, I will have learned something valuable through it.

If you had to choose someone who, in your opinion, has made the most bold choice, who would it be and why?
It is hard to choose one person because there are so many people making bold choices on a daily basis. Two groups of people that immediately come to mind are:

– Refugees, who abandon everything and embark on challenging journeys in pursuit of a better life.

– Chronic patients who, despite struggling with various health challenges, get up each day and carry on with their lives.
